Canyon Orientation @ CMC in Spring Valley

out-slot_canyon.jpgA concentrated field experience in canyon environments is provided in this course where students develop proficiency in canyon travel, group camping, and will explore the geology, geography, and ecology of the canyon country.

Text required. This is a 5-day, backpacking based, overnight field trip to Canyonlands National Park, Utah. Students are expected to participate in long day hikes each day. Class will meet for five Fridays in addition to the field trip: 8/28, 9/11, 9/25, 10/16 & 10/23. Field trip is Wednesday-Sunday, 10/7-10/11. Final exam is 10/23. Food is not provided. Backpack, sleeping bag, and tent rentals available. The supplemental course charge includes transportation, group equipment, showers, and access fees. The supplemental course charge is nonrefundable. Minimum age 18.

Backcountry Navigation @ CMC in Spring Valley

Teaches efficient backcountry navigation in a field-based or classroom setting using topographic maps and other appropriate navigation tools.

This class will focus on map reading and compass use skills in a variety of mountainous terrain. Students will need a compass by the second class. The supplemental course charge covers the cost of a map. The supplemental course charge is nonrefundable. Class will not meet on 9/4, 9/18, 10/2, and 10/9.

Class Description

This course introduces students to the discipline of computer science. Covers algorithm development, data representation, logical expressions, sub-programs, and input/output operations using a structured programming language. Requires intensive lab work outside of class time.

This is a hybrid class, which combines set days for face-to-face classroom instruction with synchronous and asynchronous online learning experiences. This class is designed for students who enjoy the flexibility and independence online learning offers and who desire significant one-on-one interaction with the instructor. The online component includes podcasts, screencasts, web conferencing, and other online collaborative tools. Before starting this class, students should have basic computer skills including the ability to navigate the Internet, use email, and send attachments. In order to be successful in this class, students MUST have regular access to a computer with reliable Internet access. An orientation to the hybrid class experience will be provided at the first face-to-face class meeting. Designed for healthcare professionals, but available to the public, this CPR class is open to individuals interested in developing the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, administer CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking safely and effectively. Students who successfully complete this class will receive a certification card valid for two years.
