Mary Ellen Denomy, West Garfield County Trustee
Mary Ellen Denomy, the Colorado Mountain College trustee representing West Garfield County since November 2009 and current treasurer of the board, is a practicing certified public accountant, with certifications as an accredited petroleum accountant, certified mineral manager, certified fraud deterrent analyst and certified forensic financial analyst. She has been a resident of Garfield County since 1993, when she moved to Colorado from Michigan.
She graduated cum laude from Michigan’s Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She has taught oil and gas accounting nationally for the past 10 years, as well as auditing for county, state and tribal governments. She has also been an expert witness in numerous court cases.
Denomy has served the National Association of Royalty Owners as president of its Rocky Mountain Chapter and past chair of its National Advisory Council. She was also the first woman to receive the Colorado CPA Society’s “CPA Who Makes a Difference” award in 2002.
She balances her right and left brain by playing several musical instruments, including violin, bass, sax, guitar, mandolin, banjo and organ. She is the director of the Glenwood Hot Strings Band and occasionally performs with Symphony in the Valley in Glenwood Springs.
Denomy is excited to offer her skills to Colorado Mountain College, and says she will work hard to help bring the future of education to today’s students.
