Instilling lifelong leadership skills in young people
Each year, First Ascent Youth Leadership brings together students from six counties in north-central Colorado. The free, one-week program at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville is designed to help young people from various social and economic backgrounds develop leadership skills and confidence.
During the program, academics, physical outdoor activities and evening small-group discussion sessions are combined to allow our young leaders to step out with greater confidence in their new-found skills.
Year after year participants and parents say that this one-week intensive course was an important decision point. Students return to participate more fully in their schools and communities, more aware of the needs of others and more willing to meet challenges with positive solutions.
