Class Description

This course examines the stance in philosophy known as skepticism, which Georg Cristoph Lichtenberg (a favorite philosopher of Leo Tolstoy and Albert Einstein) described with his aphorism, Nothing can contribute more to peace of soul than the lack of any opinion whatever.” Students will explore the appearance of this paradoxical stance and its effects within the history of Western thought. Meets Tuesdays through Nov. 26.
