Trains and certifies river professionals and recreational users how to handle emergencies and rescue situations on the river. Topics include, shallow water crossing, river swims, swimming, rescues, shore-based rescues, boat handling and, boat-based rescues, related equipment, and, communication in a variety of rescue situations. You must be at least 17 years old on the first day of class to take this course. The first class meets at the Glenwood Center at 8:00am on 5/16. This class will be taught to the guidelines of the American Canoe Association (ACA) Level 4: Swiftwater Rescue curriculum. The instructor will contact students with equipment information, including rental options for wet and dry-suits. This is a physically demanding class where students will be in the river frequently, beginning the first day. Students must be able to independently participate in skills training and activities in the class. The supplemental course charge includes transportation, access fee, printing, and textbook. The supplemental course charge is non-refundable. Minimum age 18. Meets Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 5/16-5/18. Cost: one credit hour of tuition plus a nonrefundable charge of $76.50.
