This is a mini-immersion course where students learn vocabulary and grammar focusing on things at a market or store. Students also practice money conversion and learn about different cultural components of Spanish-speaking countries. The class is broken into two segments: classroom learning followed by a treasure-hunting trip to Garcias Market in Carbondale (speaking only Spanish!). Between the classroom portion of the class and the visit to the market, students have half an hour for lunch (you are encouraged to eat at the lunch counter at Garcias Market). Students should have some Spanish exposure, but not too much. Students are responsible for their own meal and transportation to and from the market. Bring paper, pen and your enthusiasm to learn. Handouts are provided.
