The Assistant Public Information Officer supports the work of the Public Information Office (PIO) by strategically, ethically and accurately telling the story of Colorado Mountain College to internal and external audiences, through press releases and other tactics. The position acts as backup to the Public Information Officer in responding to urgent requests for institutional support and information. In conjunction with the PIO, brainstorms communications strategies (crisis or everyday), and PR planning as needed. The position is responsible for writing, editing, photography, measurement and planning. The Assistant PIO assists with tracking news coverage and media response to PIO initiatives, and attends campus marketing meetings and special events. Travel, evenings, and weekends will be required. This position reports to the PIO at the Central Services Office in Glenwood Springs, but options may exist for this person to be based at a CMC campus.

Prerequisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or related field; or education/experience combinations as noted below.
- Experience in the field: with Bachelor’s degree, five years of experience in public relations, journalism and/or communications; with Associate degree, seven years of experience; or High School/GED and nine years’ experience.
- Special skills or Attributes: Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Photoshop, and Excel, and photography skills are essential. APR certification a plus. Editing and media analysis tests will be required. Relevant professional development essential.
