Standing Tall in the Presence of a Bully @ CMC in Carbondale
Jul 17 @ 6:00 pm – 8:50 pm

Photo of instructor Fred DonaldsonTeacher Fred Donaldson, Ph.D., will help students develop methods for countering fear with love through a non-contest, highly kinesthetic form of play, developed by Dr. Donaldson over the past few decades, called Original Play. Recognized internationally for his work, Dr. Donaldson has used Original Play to catalyze cooperation among street children in Singapore and Brazil, prison inmates in South Africa, gangs in New York and Los Angeles, and Syrian refugees in Lebanon. (For an introduction, watch episode 10 of the PBS documentary The Promise of Play). Using this method, Dr. Donaldson has repeatedly facilitated reconciliation among bullies and their victims in some of the toughest schools in the world. By practicing Original Play in a workshop setting, students will learn this unusual and highly effective method for building trust and cooperation within their own communities. The workshop meets in Carbondale on Fri., July 17 (6-9p), and Sat. & Sun. July 18-19 (9a-4p). Students must register by July 1.
