Interested in creating more dynamic slideshows online that will truly spark a group conversation among your course members? You can with VoiceThread! Learn in this online course how easy it is to use VoiceThread’s collaborative online platform to create and share multimedia slide shows with images, documents, and videos. With VoiceThread, participants can leave written, audio, or video comments as they navigate through your slideshow, and the VoiceThreads can be linked to or embedded into Canvas courses or shared publicly. In this course you will learn how to:

  • Navigate through a VoiceThread and the different user roles VoiceThread offers
  • Create a VoiceThread using PowerPoint presentations, images,videos, and other files
  • Edit your VoiceThread and its settings
  • Make comments on a VoiceThread
  • Share a VoiceThread and embed it into Canvas
This course will be held via a Canvas course as well as via VoiceThread’s website. This class is designed to be flexible and accommodate your schedule. There are deadlines for each day’s work to keep the group moving forward together, but participants may work on the assignments at any time of day or night, from any computer (PC or Mac) with an Internet connection and either Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer.

Canvas Course Copying Webinar

Join CMC instructor Michelle Lefebvre and Dr. Gabrielle of the Office of Innovations for this 60 minute live webinar on how to copy courses in Canvas. Get guidance, tips, and tricks. This is your chance to ask 2 Canvas experts your questions and get help with setting up your upcoming Canvas course! We will cover:

  • How to copy a Canvas course in its entirety
  • How to copy only selected parts of a course
  • How to “export” your course and why this alternate method of course copying can be useful
  • How to copy just quizzes from one course to another
  • Common course copying issues & FAQ

This training will be held online via a Blackboard Collaborate webconference. You will be emailed the information you’ll need to join the session after you register.

Collaborate Web Conferencing

Haven’t tried Blackboard Collaborate yet? It’s an amazing way to communicate real-time with your students online. Think of the possibilities—online office hours, study sessions, class meetings…You can chat (type), speak with audio to the class, use a webcam to transmit your video to the group, show a PowerPoint, webpage, video, draw together on a whiteboard… You can also record the whole session with just a click, and paste the link to the recording in your online Canvas course for students who missed the session or for students who would like to review it. We will discuss:

  • Creating a session
  • Session settings
  • Optional components such as microphones, headsets, webcams, digital stylus/tablet
  • Browser security settings and other issues when connecting to a session
  • Hand raising and using emoticons for feedback and engagement
  • Polling; responding to a poll question
  • Chat
  • Using the whiteboard inside your session
  • Presenting a slideshow
  • Adjusting your audio and video settings
  • Desktop and application sharing, leading a webtour
  • Recording a session for students to view later
