An emphasis will be on teaching the use of apps that promote independence and self-sufficiency, especially for those with disabilities and individuals wishing to ‘age’ in place. Gives students an understanding of the forces and events that have formed the Roaring Fork Valley throughout geologic history and how these forces continue to affect the area today. Offers hands on experience of the geology from mid-valley to Independence Pass. Students must provide their own transportation and sign a liability waiver. Students will meet at CMC Aspen and embark from there. Bring lunch and come prepared for short hikes with water, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing and shoes.

Introduces the development and implementation of a program to teach English to adults whose first language is not English. Topics will range widely from assessment and placement to the theories behind language acquisition. Students will also cover a wide variety of methodologies, both group and individualized, that are aimed at teaching the non-English speaker the written and verbal skills necessary to successfully function in the United States. This course was designed to meet Colorado Literacy Instruction Authorization requirements. This hybrid course combines set days for face-to-face classroom instruction with online learning activities. Students must have basic computer skills and high-speed access to the Internet. Class meets in Carbondale on 7/18, 7/25 and 8/1. Required course for the Adult Basic Education Authorization.
