Pinterest is perhaps the most addictive social media-and probably the most fun. By the end of this session, you will be armed and ready to enjoy social media as never before. Completion of the Social Media 1 and Social Media 11 workshops in September is highly recommended, but not required. Students must bring their own device: laptops are recommended, tablets may be used, but are not recommended, smartphones (in addition to laptops or tablets) are helpful but not required. Class meets Fr, 11/8, from 9a-4p.

Canvas: Assignments Webinar

This 1 hour live webinar course demonstrates the Assignments tool of Canvas. This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas introductory training. We will address:

  • how to build an Assignment inside your course and from your master Calendar
  • the different options for a Canvas Assignment
  • using the anti-plagiarism service Turnitin with an Assignment
  • the student view of Assignments

We will conclude with Q&A regarding Assignments and other Canvas topics.

Class Description

In this three hour workshop, you will get hands-on experience in using PowerPoint for the Macintosh, starting with a simple presentation, and then learning how to add photos, clip art, sounds, and creative transitions. You will learn how to select from a variety of backgrounds, fonts, and master slides. We will also cover some of the do’s” and “don’t’s” for effective presentations, and how to use PowerPoint for simple graphic projects. If you find yourself frequently giving presentations or talks, you will want to learn how to use the PowerPoint to give your presentations more impact.

Un Dia de Espanol: Mercado @ Glenwood Springs

Class Description

This is a mini-immersion course where students learn vocabulary and grammar focusing on things at a market or store. Students also practice money conversion and learn about different cultural components of Spanish-speaking countries. The class is broken into two segments: classroom learning followed by a treasure-hunting trip to Garcias Market in Carbondale (speaking only Spanish!). Between the classroom portion of the class and the visit to the market, students have half an hour for lunch (you are encouraged to eat at the lunch counter at Garcias Market). Students should have some Spanish exposure, but not too much. Students are responsible for their own meal and transportation to and from the market. Bring paper, pen and your enthusiasm to learn. Handouts are provided.

Gluten-Free Baking & Cooking @ Glenwood Springs

Class Description

Tammy and Louie Girardot (Culinary Bootcamp and Bootcamp for Bakers) and their daughter, Simone, host this Gluten-Free Baking/Cooking workshop. Workshop time will be divided 60/40 with an emphasis on baking. During the baking portion of the class students get an in-depth view of the basic chemistry of baking desserts, muffins, scones and coffee pastries with equal emphasis on decoration and presentation. The cooking portion explores work-arounds and substitutions for ingredients used in classic holiday cooking from a gluten-free chef’s perspective. After all, the holidays are right around the corner!
