Universal Design & Accessibility Webinar

In this live webinar we will address universal design and accessibility issues. How can you make your online course and course materials welcoming to all students? We will share some technology tips that faculty and other content producers can use for documents, videos and podcasts they post online. These techniques can help make the items more accessible for students with visual or auditory challenges. This session will include:

  • OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
  • ALT Text (alternative text)
  • Text formatting
  • General Web Design / Online Course Design Tips
  • Overview of screenreaders and VoiceOver programs
  • Tips for videos and podcasts
  • Tips regarding presentations

This webinar will be held via a Collaborate web conference. Click here for the link to join the web conference; this link will be active starting 30 minutes prior to the start of the webinar. We recommend that you join the webinar early to check your audiovisual settings. OUT-snowshoe-storm.jpgThe first class meeting day is mandatory. In order to receive a certificate of completion ALL classes must be attended. Students must be at least 18 years old to register and will be responsible for their own avalanche equipment (beacon, shovel, probe pole). All students must have back country snow gear (AT or Tele skis) with skins, or snowboard and snowshoes, or split-board with skins. A one ride lift day pass may be needed (about $33) and a $25 fee will be collected at first class for AIARE material.

Canvas: Surveys & Quizzes

This 1 hour live webinar course covers the basics of building a survey and quiz (or test) in Canvas, as well as various uses, tips, and best practices. This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas training. We will address:

  • How to create a quiz (or test) in Canvas
  • How to create a survey in Canvas
  • How to export or copy a quiz or survey from one Canvas course to another
  • Ideas for student retention using mid-semester surveys and reflections
  • Quick and easy Likert scales
  • Overview of Respondus software (for importing tests)
