In this three hour workshop, you will get hands-on experience in using PowerPoint for the Macintosh, starting with a simple presentation, and then learning how to add photos, clip art, sounds, and creative transitions. You will learn how to select from a variety of backgrounds, fonts, and master slides. We will also cover some of the do’s” and “don’t’s” for effective presentations, and how to use PowerPoint for simple graphic projects. If you find yourself frequently giving presentations or talks, you will want to learn how to use the PowerPoint to give your presentations more impact.

Class Description

This is a mini-immersion course where students learn vocabulary and grammar focusing on things at a market or store. Students also practice money conversion and learn about different cultural components of Spanish-speaking countries. The class is broken into two segments: classroom learning followed by a treasure-hunting trip to Garcias Market in Carbondale (speaking only Spanish!). Between the classroom portion of the class and the visit to the market, students have half an hour for lunch (you are encouraged to eat at the lunch counter at Garcias Market). Students should have some Spanish exposure, but not too much. Students are responsible for their own meal and transportation to and from the market. Bring paper, pen and your enthusiasm to learn. Handouts are provided.

Workshop time will be divided 60/40 with an emphasis on baking. During the baking portion of the class students get an in-depth view of the basic chemistry of baking desserts, muffins, scones and coffee pastries with equal emphasis on decoration and presentation. The cooking portion explores work-arounds and substitutions for ingredients used in classic holiday cooking from a gluten-free chef’s perspective. After all, the holidays are right around the corner!

You will learn how to surf the web, how to use the Safari program effectively, how to save your favorite web sites with bookmarks, how to organize your bookmarks, how to search effectively for information on-line, and how set up parental on-line restraints for your children. Using Mac Mail, you will learn how to write, send, receive, reply, forward, organize and delete emails. You will learn how to send attachments, how to save attachments that others send you, and how know if your attachments are properly sized. Using the Mac Address book, you will learn how this program integrates with Mac Mail, and how to add people and groups to your address book.

Avalanche Awareness Level I Avalanche Safety class @ Colorado Mountain College - Spring Valley

You can learn to stay safe this winter with CMC’s Avalanche Safety course which provides the hands-on opportunity to evaluate avalanche hazards and practice rescue techniques. Classroom sessions meet Jan. 7 and 9 at Spring Valley (from 6-7:50pm); the field outing is Jan. 11 & 12.

Students will receive a certificate of completion stating that the class was taught following the guidelines of AIARE. The backcountry outings will cover up to 5 miles. Students must ski, snowboard, or snowshoe at an intermediate level or receive instructor consent. Avalanche beacons, shovels, and probe poles are provided; however, students may bring their own for the instructor to evaluate for appropriateness.
