Canvas: Surveys & Quizzes

This 1 hour live webinar course covers the basics of building a survey and quiz (or test) in Canvas, as well as various uses, tips, and best practices. This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas training. We will address:

  • How to create a quiz (or test) in Canvas
  • How to create a survey in Canvas
  • How to export or copy a quiz or survey from one Canvas course to another
  • Ideas for student retention using mid-semester surveys and reflections
  • Quick and easy Likert scales
  • Overview of Respondus software (for importing tests)

NOTE: This workshop will be taught online via Collaborate. Information about logging into the Collaborate session, including the link for joining the webconference, will be distributed via email. Canvas Semester Wrap-up Webinar

This 1 hour live webinar course shares some best practices and tips and tricks for the end of the semester! This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas training. We will address:

  • how to copy your old courses into your new courses
  • how to download data from the Gradebook
  • what to expect after the end of the semester
  • how to provide access after the semester ends to your Canvas course for a student with an Incomplete grade
  • And more!

We will conclude with open Q&A regarding Canvas.

This webinar will be held via a Collaborate web conference. Click here for the link to join the web conference; this link will be active starting 30 minutes prior to the start of the webinar. We recommend that you join the webinar early to check your audiovisual settings. Canvas: Basics Online
Jan 6 – Jan 9 all-day

This session will take place completely online in the Canvas learning management system, at coloradomtn.instructure.com. It will take place over 4 days: it begins on Monday morning and ends Thursday evening. There are deadlines for each day’s work to keep the group moving forward together, but participants may work on the assignments at any time of day or night, from any computer (PC or Mac) with an Internet connection and either Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. In Canvas: Basics Online we will cover how to:

  • Log into Canvas
  • Modify your profile and Notifications in Canvas
  • Make your course “published” so that students can see it
  • Create an announcement
  • Create Pages and add text, videos, and links to the course’s Pages
  • Create a Discussion
  • Work with modules
  • Create Assignments
  • And more!

In addition to these tasks, the group will also be communicating via the course discussions. Participants will be engaging with Canvas as students and will carry out some of the assigned tasks in the Canvas course for this training. However, some of the tasks must be done outside of this training’s course, in a “sandbox” course where the participant has an instructor role. This “sandbox” course will be provided for course participants. This training concludes with a final quiz on Canvas topics.

Collaborate Web Conferencing

Haven’t tried Collaborate, formerly known as Elluminate Live!, yet? It’s an amazing way to communicate real-time with your students online. Think of the possibilities—online office hours, study sessions, class meetings…You can chat (type), speak with audio to the class, use a webcam to transmit your video to the group, show a PowerPoint, webpage, video, draw together on a whiteboard… You can also record the whole session with just a click, and paste the link to the recording in your online Canvas course for students who missed the session or for students who would like to review it. We will discuss:

  • Creating a session
  • Session settings
  • Optional components such as microphones, headsets, webcams, digital stylus/tablet
  • Browser security settings and other issues when connecting to a session
  • Hand raising and using emoticons for feedback and engagement
  • Polling; responding to a poll question
  • Chat
  • Using the whiteboard inside your session
  • Presenting a slideshow
  • Adjusting your audio and video settings
  • Desktop and application sharing, leading a webtour
  • Recording a session for students to view later

Canvas Gradebook & SpeedGrader Webinar

Join us for a 60-minute live online webinar via Blackboard Collaborate that will introduce CMC faculty to grading in Canvas. We will demonstrate the Canvas Gradebook and SpeedGrader.  This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas training. We will address:

  • the kinds of graded items that Canvas offers
  • a brief introduction to the Gradebook and its features
  • how to find, launch, and use the Canvas SpeedGrader to grade Assignments and Discussions.
  • inputting grades, messaging students, and muting assignments in the Gradebook.
  • We will conclude with Q&A regarding grading in Canvas.

You can participate from the comfort of your home or office. This is not a hands-on course, so there is no need for you to access Canvas before or during this overview. Simply attend and see how easy it is to use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) by Instructure to provide your students with their grades and monitor their performance.
