CMC Theatre holds open auditions for “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” @ Colorado Mountain College New Space Theatre

artwork for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"Colorado Mountain College Theatre will hold open auditions for “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” on Jan. 18 (1 to 6 p.m.) in the New Space Theatre at Spring Valley, located at 3000 County Road 114 south of Glenwood Springs.
 
“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” is the comedic musical adaptation of the ancient Roman plays written by Plautus. The story centers on Pseudolus, a crafty slave who seeks to gain his freedom by winning the hand of a woman for his young master. The large cast has 17 roles. Performance dates are Apr. 4-6 and 10-13.
 
Those who wish to audition should prepare a one- to two-minute monologue and a short cut of a musical number that demonstrates the individual’s range (please provide sheet music). Callbacks will be Jan. 19 from 1 to 5 p.m.

This class is a form of Hatha Yoga that utilizes bio mechanical principles of alignment together with breath and a celebration of the heart. Each class is focused on a heart-related theme that brings awareness of how yoga brings us off the mat and into the world. The class is influenced by the principles of Anusara Yoga, which empowers the student to find a sense of ease, and move into challenging poses. Meets Mondays & Wednesdays, 1/20-2/26. The Wednesday class is 15 minutes longer and ends at 6:45. Please bring a yoga mat and blanket to class. Cost: $91. Refund date: 1/17.

Canvas Gradebook & SpeedGrader Webinar

Join us for a 60-minute live online webinar via Blackboard Collaborate that will introduce CMC faculty to grading in Canvas. We will demonstrate the Canvas Gradebook and SpeedGrader.  This is not a hands-on training. This course assumes that participants already have some experience using Canvas, or have taken Canvas: Basics Online or another Canvas training. We will address:

  • the kinds of graded items that Canvas offers
  • a brief introduction to the Gradebook and its features
  • how to find, launch, and use the Canvas SpeedGrader to grade Assignments and Discussions.
  • inputting grades, messaging students, and muting assignments in the Gradebook.
  • We will conclude with Q&A regarding grading in Canvas.

You can participate from the comfort of your home or office. This is not a hands-on course, so there is no need for you to access Canvas before or during this overview. Simply attend and see how easy it is to use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) by Instructure to provide your students with their grades and monitor their performance.

This webinar will be held via a Blackboard Collaborate web conference. The link to join the webinar will be sent via email to registered participants; you can also contact the webinar’s instructor for the link. Photo of Man with BackpackEach of us has been blessed with some knowledge or wisdom that someone else was generous enough to share with us.  CMC would like to honor this spirit of generosity by inviting you to the inaugural semester of our new Gift of Learning Series, a number of free lectures and workshops presented by CMC students and staff at our Lappala Center in Carbondale during the spring 2014 semester.  Topics cover a wide variety of subjects.

“What’s In Your Backpack” – Craig Farnum, College Counselor
Craig will examine the attitudes, values, and beliefs that we carry around with us in our invisible backpacks.  He will look at how the “stuff” in our backpacks influences how we evaluate people and situations. What happens when our behaviors align with our attitudes, values and beliefs? What happens when they do not align?
