Intro to Solid Waste Management @ Carbondale

Class Description

Did you ever wonder what happens to the stuff you throw away or recycle? This course, taught by Cathy Hall and Jed Miller of Pitkin County Landfill, introduces general concepts in landfill management, including: best practices in recycling and waste diversions for rural communities; proper disposal and identification of hazardous wastes; techniques in both green-waste and food-waste composting; and the economics of landfill operations. Whether you are an educator wishing to teach others about the science of solid waste management, a concerned citizen hoping to promote waste reduction in your home or workplace, or a policy-maker who wants to understand how integrated solid waste affects the budget and well-being of your community, this is the course for you. In addition to 9 hours of classroom instruction in Carbondale, Ms. Hall (MBA, SWANA) and Mr. Miller (SWANA, RCRA, DOT HazMat) will lead a 4-hour field trip to the Pitkin County Landfill on Saturday, Feb 8 (9a-1p). Meets Thursdays, 1/30-2/13. Cost: $49. Refund date: 1/28.

In this three hour workshop you will learn how to properly turn on and off your Mac, how to identify the external connections to the computer, how to use the mouse or track pad, and gain a better understanding of the Mac desktop including its menus, dock and status menu. You will learn how to adjust your sound volume and screen brightness, how and when to right click. You will learn about the apple menu, the finder, and system preferences.
