Intro to Solid Waste Management @ Carbondale

Did you ever wonder what happens to the stuff you throw away or recycle? This course, taught by Cathy Hall and Jed Miller of Pitkin County Landfill, introduces general concepts in landfill management, including: best practices in recycling and waste diversions for rural communities; proper disposal and identification of hazardous wastes; techniques in both green-waste and food-waste composting; and the economics of landfill operations. In addition to 9 hours of classroom instruction in Carbondale, Ms. Hall (MBA, SWANA) and Mr. Miller (SWANA, RCRA, DOT HazMat) will lead a 4-hour field trip to the Pitkin County Landfill on Saturday, Feb 8 (9a-1p).
