First Steps Seminar: New Business Start Up

Assess your own strengths and weaknesses as a business owner. Learn how to analyze the potential for your business. Where do you find good data?  This program is designed for people who have not yet started a business.

You will learn how to answer these questions:

  • Who are my customers, why do they want/need my product/service and how many are out there?
  • How do I build a revenue/sales forecast?
  • How much money will you need to start your business and how to build a monthly expense budget?  What is the forecast for profit/loss my first two years?
  • What are the sources for funding your business and what do they require?
  • What resources are available to help you with the planning process?

Alaska Environmental Issues, Impacts, and Paddling the Northern Waters @ CMC Steamboat Springs

Join us for an evening exploring the coastal waters of Alaska with professor and author Paul Twardock.  Paul has worked and taught at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage since 1988.  He is the author of Kayaking and Camping in Prince William Sound, and founder of the Alaska Sea Kayaking Symposium and the Alaska Natural History Symposium.

Accounts Receivable Management and Effective Collection Practices

If you extend credit to others to encourage sales or adapt to standard practices in your industry, you know that accounts receivables drain cash, are add administrative hassle, cause worry and, occasionally, go bad.  This seminar will help you create an easy, systemic process to oversee your receivables, develop prompt payment habits from clients and deal with slow pay clients professionally and effectively.

Topics that will be covered in this program include:

  • Credit applications and pre-qualification of client risk.
  • The cost of out of control receivables to your business
  • Early steps that offer friendly encourage for prompt payment
  • Dealing with past due clients professionally and assertively
  • Steps to take to accelerate the collection process (legal, collection agencies and small claims court).

The presentation will be led by Randy Rudasics, Manager of the Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center at CMC and a SCORE business counselor. Prior to his role at CMC, Randy owned and operated a staffing service in Indiana where he managed  receivables in excess of one million dollars including the extension of credit and collections.  Randy also spent many years with Hewlett Packard where he oversaw receivables and financing activities for a $250 million dollar territory.

Cost is $15, includes seminar, light snacks and coffee.

Exciting scientific progress is being made in discovering potential ways to predict, treat, delay and even prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. Concurrent with its joint scientific research conferences on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases, Silverthorne-based nonprofit Keystone Symposia is hosting a free evening event for the public with three leading Alzheimer’s researchers: Dr. David M. Holtzman from Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Richard Mayeux from Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital, and Dr. John Q. Trojanowski from the University of Pennsylvania. Brief presentations by the panelists will be followed by audience Q&A.
