Dr. Christopher Bell presents Media Messaging Learn how media performs the function of teaching us to be members of our society. Using examples from everything from Disney films to the NFL, Dr. Bell weaves an intricate and compelling tapestry of media messages to help attendees become more savvy media consumers. 

Dr. Christopher Bell is an Assistant Professor of Communication in the Department of Communication and the director of the Center for Excellence in Communication at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He is the author of American Idolatry: Celebrity, Commodity, and Reality Television and Hermione Granger Saves the World!: Essays on the Feminist Heroine of Hogwarts.  Both books are currently available through the CMC Leadville Library.

The Climbing Wall will be closed to the public on Thursday Feb. 27th and Friday Feb. 28th for the Collegiate Climbing Competition.  Please plan accordingly!

 Angela Glover Blackwell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PolicyLink

Angela Glover Blackwell, started PolicyLink in 1999 and continues to drive its mission of advancing economic and social equity. PolicyLink has become a leading voice in the movement to use public policy to improve access and opportunity for all low-income people and communities of color, particularly in the areas of health, housing, transportation, education, and infrastructure.

Blackwell is the co-author of Uncommon Common Ground: Race and America’s Future (W.W. Norton & Co., 2010), and contributed to Ending Poverty in America: How to Restore the American Dream (The New Press, 2007) In 2013, Blackwell and PolicyLink collaborated with the Center for American Progress to write and release All In Nation: An America that Works for All. Blackwell earned a bachelor’s degree from Howard University, and a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She serves on numerous boards and has served on The President’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
