Looking for a Summer Job?Now’s the time to start thinking about securing a local summer job. Our Summer Job Fair is the perfect opportunity to meet local employers who are looking to hire summer seasonal help.

Meet up with them between noon and 1 p.m. in the Calaway building rotunda. Some of the employers who will attend include: the Rec Centers in both Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, FedEx, The Little Nell from Aspen, Glenwood Caverns, the Hot Springs Pool and more.

New college president to address how access to higher education transforms lives, communities.

Dr. Carrie Besnette HauserWhat would draw a high-powered, rising star – one who has built a career on enhancing educational access for people who might not otherwise have that opportunity – to serve the small towns on Colorado’s Western Slope?

As Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser explains, it’s because of the opportunity to help lead Colorado Mountain College toward becoming the premier and most innovative institution of its kind.

Hauser, the ninth and newest president of CMC, and the second woman in the job, will address her vision for the college and for student success as the inaugural speaker of the 2014 Roaring Fork Cultural Council speakers’ series in Carbondale March 10. She will also share her thoughts about how access to affordable, high-quality education can transform lives and elevate communities’ economic and social vitality.

“Our new strategic plan is driving us toward becoming the most inclusive, innovative, student-centered college in the country,” Hauser says. “We believe this vision will help us to elevate the economic, social, cultural and environmental vitality of the incredible communities we serve.”

Latin America: Where is it Going? @ CMC in Carbondale

photo of a globe zoomed in on Latin AmericaEach of us has been blessed with some knowledge or wisdom that someone else was generous enough to share with us.  CMC would like to honor this spirit of generosity by inviting you to the inaugural semester of our new Gift of Learning Series, a number of free lectures and workshops presented by CMC students and staff at our Lappala Center in Carbondale during the spring 2014 semester.  Topics cover a wide variety of subjects.

“Latin America: Where is it Going” (a recent history South of the Border) – Rico Torres & Carlos Herrera (adjunct instructors and community members)

Latin American countries have experienced significant socioeconomic changes over the last couple of decades. Rico and Carlos will take a brief look at the main events and tendencies within that history, including how Latin America has been affected by globalization.  They will also examine the relations between Latin American countries and the US, along with some of the principal institutions that have defined those relations (IMF, World Bank, Mercosur, ALBA, etc.).
