Eighth Graders Only – Going into 8th grade or have just completed 8th grade. Spend the week exploring the idea of energy with hands-on activities. On Monday, learn about solar energy and make a solar cell. On Tuesday you will do chemistry and learn about oil, natural gas and coal and their role in providing energy for our society, Wednesday is all about biofuels and sustainability, and Thursday spend the day using our mobile lab and practice being an energy emgineer out in the field. Monday through Thursday lunch and snacks ar provided to students. Friday morning prepare poster boards on the activities done throughout the week. Parents are invited for a lunch at noon, and then students will present their poster boards and talk about all the great things they experienced during the week. CLASS ON FRIDAY ENDS WITH THE LUNCH PRESENTATION. Students will leave Friday with a great energy gift and all their projects.
Each week participants will work on the fine points of one of the following types of shots: putting, approach shots, driving, short irons and fairway woods. Class will include demonstration, instruction, question and answer time and practice time. Bring your own equipment. Fee includes cost of golf balls. Each Golf Clinic will be taught at the Rifle Creek Golf Course by the PGA staff. This is your chance to check out Mulligans Restaurant.
Get the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school-aged children. Babysitter Training is geared to those 11-15 years of age. It provides you with the basics on how to respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care; communicate with parents to learn household rules; recognize safety and hygiene issues; and feed, diaper and care for infants. All participants will receive a Babysitter Kit and training in Pediatric FA/CPR. For Babysitters Training w/Pediatric FA/CPR cerficiation CARD, add $20.00 to the cost of this class.

Learn how to make a business case for a sustainable facility through sustainable water use, energy efficiency, xeriscaping, green cleaning and switching to renewables. This is a workshop in partnership with CORE. Perfect for those managing any type of commercial building. The first day of class we will meet at the Rifle Campus. On the second day of class we will take a tour of sustainalbe facilities in the valley. Includes lunch.

Using finds from the Rifle Farmers’ Market, Chef Matt Maier will show you how to make a delicious dinner using seasonal and sustainable ingredients. You’ll enjoy your creations together, family-style, and discuss what you learned. Feel free to bring a beverage to enjoy with your food at the end of the class. This class will be held at Grand River Health, 501 Airport Rd. in Rifle.
Create a welding project in our state-of-the-art lab at Rifle HighSchool. This is an introductory workshop; no previous welding experience is required. You will have a choice of making a piece of garden art or a wine rack. Students must wear leather boots or shoes and long denim pants. Additional safety gear will be provided. On Friday, class hours are 5:30 p – 8:30p. On Saturday, class hours are 8:00a – 5:00p with a one hour break for lunch.
Explore the importance of flowers and plants in your world! This class conducts experiments in how water moves through plants, flower dissection, leaf chromatography, and why butterflies and bees are good for your garden. Feel free to bring your own leaf sampels- but leave the bees at home! This class is for kids 7-9 years of age.
Have you considered taking your camera off the automatic setting and actually creating a photo? Using shutter speed, aperature, depth of field and depth of focus, you can MAKE a photo rather than taking whatever the camera wants to give you. Beginners will learn the basis of “Getting Off Automatic” and mid-level students will learn techniques they never knew existed. There is something for everyone as each student will be given individual attention. The class will also introduce the business component of photography. You must have a camera capable of being taken off automatic for this class. A list of additional required supplies is available from the Rifle Campus front desk. Class days are Fri. & Mon., 6p – 8:30p and Sat. & Sun., 9:30a – 8:30p.
