CMC Summer Technology Institute
What is the Colorado Mountain College Summer Technology Institute?

The Colorado Mountain College Summer Technology Institute is a week-long, technology-packed learning adventure. Institute students will learn about the technical, creative, and business aspects of technology. Students will work in the new CMC Computer Lab, accessing state of the art hardware and computer applications and work with experienced instructors who are professionals at the forefront of their fields. Students will learn web site development, digital photography, e-commerce shopping carts, Photoshop, video production and editing, and more. At the end of the week, teams of students will apply and present all of their new skills in the form of a final team capstone project.

Institute Mission
The mission of the Colorado Mountain College Summer Technology Institute is to provide participants with an opportunity to experience the dynamic, multi-faceted worlds of technology in a week-long enrichment institute.

Dr. Vince Matthews, one of the top experts in the field of geology, is leading this one-day workshop. Participants will never look at this region’s scenic beauty the same way after this day of studying it first-hand. Leadville’s spectacular scenery reflects a time when ice covered and formed much of the landscape. It was a time of valleys filled with thousands of feet of ice; of 600-foot-deep lakes forming, then catastrophically emptying in a day.

Participants will learn to read the signs of this classic glacial terrain in the field. Generations of geologists all over America have studied Turquoise Lake in their classrooms. Now you can study its marvels first hand. Follow the glacially dammed lake from Malta to Buena Vista. Experience periglacial features such as patterned ground, rock glaciers, and sackungen.

“Walk on the Wild Side” with Garry Zabel @ Ice Age Discovery Center at the Snowmass Village Mall

The site was the final resting place of 41 different kinds of Ice Age animals including mammoths, mastodons, giant bison and more. It is one of the most significant discoveries in North America. Bring the kids and learn more about the discovery!

Walk on the Wild Side with Garry Zabel
Discussion at the Ice Age Discovery Center from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Later, 5:30 to 7 p.m., there will be a hike up the Rim Trail above the reservoir for a glaciology/geology walking lecture. Come prepared to hike and provide your own transportation to the trailhead.

The Ice Age Discovery Center is located on the Snowmass Village Mall. Parking is provided in lots 4, 5, 8 and 9.

These events are free and open to the public.
