There is something for everyone at CMC in Leadville

Events & Activities in Leadville at Colorado Mountain College include everything from movie nights and disc golf tournaments to skiing events and trips to Denver.

Several Tenth Mountain Association backcountry huts are nearby for overnight winter trips. A 20-station fitness trail and 8 kilometers of cross-country ski trails are available on campus for students.

Students enjoy the backyard terrain park, located on the backside of the Mountain View Residence Hall, all winter long.  Maintained by Ski Area Operations (SAO), the features are constantly changing due to weather and use.  Make sure to get some practice in early because you do not want to miss the Annual Rail Jam, hosted by SAO every March.

Students keep in shape on an indoor climbing wall and recreation center in the Climax Molybdenum Leadership Center (see the Climax Gym Schedule for hours of operation).  The CMC Leadville Student Government Association (SGA) also sponsors free days at the Lake County Aquatic Center and local Ice Rink.

The Mineral Belt Trail is an 11.6 mile, all-season, non-motorized, ADA accessible route that loops the city of Leadville and has multiple access points near campus.  CMC students help groom the trail during the winter months for cross country skiing, and students enjoy running and biking the trail in the summer.

The Events and Activities Calendar is continuously being updated.  Make sure to check back often so that you don’t miss out on any of the fun!

Walden Chamber Music Society Concert

Walden Oct 26 Concert Poster 8 5x11Jo Boatright,  concert pianist now living in Buena Vista, invites everyone to the first  2014-2015 season Walden Chamber Music Society Concert on Sunday, October 26 at 3 :00pm at the SteamPlant Theater in Salida.  Ms. Boatright co-founded the Walden Chamber Music 35 five years ago in Dallas, Texas, and after a long successful career, she has continued to perform with the Walden musicians for the last ten years in Chaffee County.

The October 26 concert features violinist Lina Bahn, violist Matt Diekman, cellist Gal Faganel (first appearance with the Walden), flutist Harvey Boatright and pianist Jo Boatright.

The concert opens with  “Serenade in G Major for flute, violin, and viola” by Max Reger. In a celebration of American composer George Crumb’s 85th birthday, the Walden  musicians perform his haunting “Vox Balanae, voice of the Whale (1971) for amplified flute, ‘cello and piano.”

The second part of the concert presents “Four Nocturnes, Night Music II (1964) for violin and piano” also by George Crumb, and ends with “Piano Quartet Op. 13 in c minor” by Richard Strauss.

Prior to the 3 :00pm concert, Ms. Boatright will conduct a thirty-minute informance at 2 :00pm, during which she will explain and give a short musical demonstration of the music to be performed.

Tickets are $15/adult and are available on line at www.salidasteamplant.com,  at the SteamPlant Theater box office, at the Salida and Buena Vista Chambers of Commerce, or at the door prior to the concert. Limited free students tickets are also available at the door.
