Success Steps: Understanding Your Market Potential
Customers, Demographics and Forecasting

For entrepreneurs attempting to understand the potential for a product or service in their community, they need to know the buying patterns, market demographics and be able to create a forecast of sales using this information. This seminar will help you dig through a myriad of information for data that is relevant to your venture. Topics include:
- Using data resources such as the census
- Creating assumptions about buying behavior based upon demographic data
- Using this information as the building blocks of a sales forecast
- The necessity of good market data in a business plan
- Challenges of forecasting
Time will be provided for question and answer as well.
This program will be presented by Scott Ford. Scott has over 10 years’ experience as a business counselor in Steamboat Springs and has helped hundreds of individuals create viable market profiles. He has owned several successful small businesses and worked with private business, government, the chamber and Yampa Valley Data Partners on demographic research. He is currently on the Steamboat Springs City Council.

Yampa Valley SCORE Business Plan Competition
Hosted by Colorado Mountain College
Sponsored by the City of Steamboat Springs
The objective of this program is to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to create a well written business plan and to present their plan to experienced business professionals for evaluation.
The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000, 3 months free rent in the new Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center, an introduction and visit with a venture capital funding company and recognition for their new business in the community. It is assumed this prize is taxable income for recipient. The second place competitor will receive a cash prize of $5,000. Prize money will come from the City of Steamboat Springs in support of economic development in the community.
Written business plans will be due by September 19, 2016. Oral presentation will occur within several weeks. There will be a pre-submission agreement and waiver for applicants to complete.
