Yampa Valley SCORE Business Plan Competition Winners Announced!

Congratulation to all of the participants in the 2016 Community Business Plan Competition.
10 entrepreneurs submitted plans, 7 were invited to present their plans in person and the winners are:

1st Place:  Excurso.  An application software company creating a social media tools for outdoor adventurers.  This application software tool will be launched very soon after a multi year development effort.  Bryon Carney was the presenter.

2nd Place:  Hive 180.  A full service marketing company offering support for other businesses in the form of advertising, social media, web sites, photography in both digital and print formats.  Leslie Murphy was the presenter.

In a couple months, contingent upon sponsor support, we will be begin the process to hold this competition for 2017, including seminars, counseling and a fall deadline for plan submission.  Details will be in this newsletter and in the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

Filing your business taxes can be stressful, frustrating and expensive.  Join us for a seminar that will help you prepare well for your filing and help you understand typical issues that other small businesses deal with filing their returns.  Topics covered include:

  • Deadlines for filing including extensions
  • Do it yourself versus using an accountant or tax preparation service.
  • What to bring to your tax prep person
  • Changes for 2016 that affect small business
  • Home office deductions and vehicle deductions
  • Red flags for auditors
