Designed for healthcare professionals, but available to the public, this CPR class is open to individuals interested in developing the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, administer CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking safely and effectively. This class meets the requirements for the American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification. An individual pocket mask and text are included in the class fee. Students who successfully complete this class will receive a certification card valid for two years.

In this class, you will use PowerPoint to create engaging, dynamic multimedia presentations. This class starts with an overview of PowerPoint’s capabilities and quickly takes you into creating a presentation using different layouts. You will learn how to enhance a presentation with graphic objects (Clip Art, WordArt, etc.), tables and charts; use templates and the slide master to provide a consistent look across slides; add animation and slide transitions, run a manual or automatic slide show, and use notes and handout options. By learning how to use the vast array of features and functionality contained within PowerPoint, you can organize your content, enhance it with high-impact visuals, and deliver it with a punch.

Study Abroad – Costa Rica

photo - volcanic mountains in Costa RicaDon’t just travel…immerse yourself and come away enriched by experience. Join two CMC professors in Costa Rica for a three-week environmental and cultural immersion program. You’ll stay with a Costa Rican family, take Spanish classes that are enhanced by being immersed in the culture, and expert guidance through Costa Rica’s unique environment and ecosystems. Add a whole new dimension to foreign travel and join us to get an in depth cultural and environmental look into Costa Rica. Travel experiences include:
• Poás Volcano National Park – Poás is an active stratovolcano. We will look into an inactive crater filled in by a lake, and hike through the cloud forest with a park ranger. Cloud forests are one of the rarest ecosystems on earth.
• Braulio Carrillo National Park—Catch a glimpse a quetzal, Costa Rica’s emblematic bird in this protected virgin growth forest.
• Finca la Flor – Finca la Flor is a beautiful organic farm. We will volunteer and learn how sustainable practices and organic techniques can be implemented. We will spend two nights on this farm in the Orosí Valley.
• Manuel Antonio National Park –One of the most beautiful national parks in the world, we will observe two different species of sloths, three of four Costa Rican species of monkeys, various reptiles like iguanas and snakes, toucans, giant woodpeckers, coatis and possibly dolphins. We will spend 2 nights at the park and enjoy the magnificent Pacific coast beaches that the area has to offer.
• Wind Farm – We will visit a wind farm that produces electricity and learn how wind is used to generate much of the electrical needs of the Central Valley of Costa Rica.

In addition, you will live with local families, and take meals with them. You will have the option to stay with your host family during the weekends, or to travel independently to a number of beautiful sites such as the Monteverde Cloud Forest or the Caribbean Coast.
