Wilderness First Responder @ CMC in Spring Valley

This course provides the student with those skills and emergency medical care techniques used by guides, trip leaders and others providing primary care in backcountry setting. The student will be able to respond correctly to those medical and trauma situations commonly encountered when entry into the EMS system is delayed or unlikely.

This class will be taught to the guidelines of the Wilderness Medicine Society. Field meeting dates will emphasize practical skills in backcountry settings and will take place in the classroom and outdoors. Field days are mandatory on Saturday and Sunday, 10/4 & 10/5, and 10/25 & 10/26. The 10/25 meeting includes a night triage activity. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be awarded certifications from the American Heart Association (Professional Rescuer CPR) and Desert Mountain Medicine (WFR). Certifications are active for two years. The supplemental course charge includes textbook, expendable supplies, and certification fees. The supplemental course charge is nonrefundable. Minimum age 17.

Capture the glory of fall in the Rockies during this 3-day workshop! Learn the fundamentals of observation, drawing design, values and color from a well known expert – artist Lanny Grant. Lanny will discuss and demonstrate techniques and work one-on-one to build your skills, interpret the landscape and study light and perspective. Through this foundation, you will continue to develop your own personal style. Students will meet each morning at the campus, then carpool to a pre-selected outdoor site for class. This class emphasizes lead climbing skills and is part of a three-climbing-class series that includes Rock Climbing I and Rock Self-Rescue. This class has a mandatory meeting at the Spring Valley Climbing Wall from 5:00-5:50pm on 9/24. This class includes one overnight field trip departing at 8:00am on 9/26, and returning at 6:30pm on 9/28.
