Provides students with an experiential learning experience. Provides condensed, intensive instruction from nationally and internationally recognized professional artists in fine arts. Explores advanced studies, including techniques and concepts, as they relate to one or more of the following: ceramics, painting, drawing, photography, film-making, sculpture, or other media. May be repeated for up to six credits.

Introduces the construction of jewelry designs in metals and small casting techniques. The tool list is available at the front desk and tools must be acquired before the first day of class. Canyon Orientation @ CMC in Spring Valley

Class Description:

A concentrated field experience in canyon environments is provided in this course where students develop proficiency in canyon travel, group camping, and will explore the geology, geography, and ecology of the canyon country.

Explore the high-mountain desert with this 5-day backpacking trip to the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. The class operates in a stunning location and visits several ruins from different time periods. Pre-meetings are 9/27 and 10/4 from 10-11:50 am. Field days are Wednesday-Sunday, 10/11-10/15. The non-refundable, supplemental course charge of $190.70 paid to CMC includes $10 in supplies, $5 for permit/access fees, and $175.31 in travel expenses.

Learn about the history of printmaking and various uses. Students will be introduced to intermediate techniques for multi-color prints which may require sketching and carving work outside of class. Carol Newman shows you how to create a mosaic using cut glass tile and other materials. Get familiar with cutting and adhesive techniques using design templates. Class will include a grouting demo, and you’ll get a supply of grout to complete work at home. Materials and tools will be provided, but you may also bring your own tools or objects (approx. 1” sq.). Cost: $41 plus $15 materials fee.
