You can learn to stay safe this winter with CMC’s Avalanche Safety course which provides the hands-on opportunity to evaluate avalanche hazards and practice rescue techniques. Classroom sessions meet Jan. 7 and 9 at Spring Valley (from 6-7:50pm); the field outing is Jan. 11 & 12.

Students will receive a certificate of completion stating that the class was taught following the guidelines of AIARE. The backcountry outings will cover up to 5 miles. Students must ski, snowboard, or snowshoe at an intermediate level or receive instructor consent. Avalanche beacons, shovels, and probe poles are provided; however, students may bring their own for the instructor to evaluate for appropriateness.

Limited space is available. Please register on or before Jan. 3.
