The site was the final resting place of 41 different kinds of Ice Age animals including mammoths, mastodons, giant bison and more. It is one of the most significant discoveries in North America. “Bringing Back Ice Age Beasts: Can We Really Clone a Mastodon?” with Tom Cardomone

Serious scientists in North America, Korea and Siberia have sequenced the DNA of Wooly Mammoths and some are restoring the grassy mammoth steppe ecosystems once widespread during the Ice Age. After all, once cloned, they’ll need a place to live. Could Colorado’s wildlife once again include mammoths, mastodons, giant-horned bison, huge short-face bear and other magnificent mammals that actually roamed the mountains and plains quite recently? The critical steps from cloning, to de-extinction, to re-wilding are challenging, and our discussion will be enlightening.

The Ice Age Discovery Center is located on the Snowmass Village Mall. Parking is provided in lots 4, 5, 8 and 9.

These events are free and open to the public.
