A concentrated field experience in the Colorado mountain environment is provided in this course. Emphasis is on backpacking skills, safety procedures, ecology, geology, geography, and group dynamics.
This orientation course explores a pristine wilderness area along the Continental Divide. Taking place the week before classes officially start, it is highly recommended for new students seeking challenge, adventure, and community. Class meets at the Spring Valley Campus at 8AM on Thursday 8/17 and is out on the backpacking trip from Thursday through Tuesday 8/22. An equipment list and additional information will be posted on Canvas for students. Basic backpacking equipment is available to rent. The nonrefundable, supplemental course charge of $236.52 paid to CMC includes $54.69 in transportation, $23.38 in access and campground fees, $152.50 in supplies, and $5.95 in tax.
