Wilderness First Responder

This course provides the student with those skills and emergency medical care techniques used by guides, trip leaders and others providing primary care in backcountry setting. The student will be able to respond correctly to those medical and trauma situations commonly encountered when entry into the EMS system is delayed or unlikely.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be awarded a CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR)certification, Anaphylaxis Administration, and CPR certifications from Desert Mountain Medicine. Evening classes include Tuesday-Thursday nights from 4/12-5/1, 6-9:20PM. Field days are mandatory on Saturday and Sunday, 4/21 & 4/22 from 9AM-5PM and Saturday, 4/28 from 9AM-10PM for the final night scenario. Students must complete 30 hours of this course online prior to the first in-person lesson on 4/12. Please check canvas upon registration for information to access web-based content. Minimum age 18. The non-refundable, supplemental course charge includes $25 for a textbook, $265 for WFR Certifications, $40 in supplies, and $2.54 in tax. This is a hybrid, which combines set days for face-to-face classroom instruction with online learning activities. The instructor will provide details about the class schedule, face-to-face meeting times, and other details to help you succeed. Students must have basic computer skills including the ability to navigate, use email, send attachments, and have DSL or high-speed access to the internet.
