Colorado Mountain College Geology Club

Get in the field with friends and explore Colorado and surrounding areas

CMC’s Leadville Campus new Geology Club was approved by the Student Government Association and is open to all CMC students. Activities include bi-monthly meetings, day/overnight field trips, mineral/fossil hunting and collection, and is a great way to learn more about Colorado’s amazing landscapes.

The Club has purchased supplies from the Rock Hut, and will be prepared with some awesome trips planned for next semester!

Upcoming Geology Club Field Trips

TBD (mid to late-July): Grizzly Peak Caldera (Near Independence Pass).

Hike into an extinct volcano where you will observe evidence of pyroclastic flows and very unique hydrology (iron and aluminum springs).

TBD (September or October): Fossil collecting at Baculites Mesa (near Pueblo) and visit to Dinosaur Quarry near Canon City.

September 25 - 28: Geological Society of America Annual Conference in Denver
