Learn GIS Skills in a Real-World Environment

Unique hands-on experiences will strengthen your skill set

Colorado Mountain College’s GIS program combines field and classroom work to provide in-depth, practical experience using GIS tools.

You’ll get ample data-collection experience in the field, using Garmin and Trimble GPS hardware, and learn how to integrate that information with existing GIS data using state-of-the-art software.

  • Students will learn mapping and spatial analysis skills with ESRI’s ArcGIS, the dominant software in the GIS industry.
  • For data collection and post-processing, you’ll use industry-standard Trimble software tools.
  • You will also have access to ESRI’s Virtual Campus for online tutorials, practical labs and independent course work.

You will use the latest GIS hardware and software to learn how to collect and analyze data. You will work with a wide variety of information, including natural resource, transportation, demographic and planning data.

Students pursuing the GIS certificate will complete working internships in the GIS field or GPS data-collection projects. CMC partners with local conservation organizations, community groups, and government agencies to create internship and project opportunities.
