winter trekkingSnow and Ice at the CMC Alpine Campus

Winter can be long in Steamboat Springs, and we love it when the snow starts to fall.  This means a whole new variety of course options unfold for the winter.

Snow Orientation (OUT114)
This is our 2-credit winter course aimed at camping and recreating in our Colorado mountains’ winter environment.  We learn how to gear up for the winter’s cold, build snow shelters, and travel safely.

winter backpackingAvalanche Training (OUT160)
We teach Level 1 avalanche courses to introduce backcountry users to safe travel and assessment of snow conditions in the surrounding backcountry.

Telemark Skiing (PED139)
We introduce you to the basics of the telemark turn, telemark gear, the history of this activity, and we go out and make some turns in both the backcountry and in a lift assisted area.

Ice Climbing (PED173)
In this course, you’re introduced to technical ice climbing at one of our local frozen waterfalls.

Survival Skills (OUT210)
Students travel into the backcountry and learn the basics of surviving in an emergency winter situation.
