Originally from Ohio, I spent most of my professional career in New York City and overseas. The journey that I took led to interesting assignments in financial management, economic development, and research and training at the United Nations, General Electric, Scholastic Inc., New York City Police Department, and Peace Corps.

Now I have found my passion in teaching and learning at Colorado Mountain College where I have worked for the past ten years as a business advisor and associate professor. I developed CMC’s new program in entrepreneurship and I have taught courses in launching new ventures, small business management and planning, accounting, budget management, corporate social responsibility, and cultural diversity in business.

I believe that I have always been entrepreneurial as an employee looking for innovative ways of doing things or as a small business owner taking risks and sometimes failing and starting over. Currently, my husband and I own a small household and commercial moving and storage business, which we purchased in March 2006. During the first ten months of operations, we increased annual revenues by 50% through creative marketing and responsive customer service.

My education includes a bachelors of arts with a major in French language and literature and a MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Recently, I earned a PhD in Education at Colorado State University with an emphasis on Community College Leadership. Photo of Susanna Spaulding wearing a red beret.

My worldview is influenced by many years of living and working in countries as diverse as France, Botswana, Chad, Madagascar, and Bulgaria. Now that globalization and technology have allowed so many countries to compete in the world economy, the opportunities for entrepreneurial innovation have expanded making this an exciting time to launch and manage a new venture.
