Thermo Mattson Satellite FT-IR (Donated 2007)This instrument and the accompanying software was donated to CMC in 2008. This instrument is used to determine the composition of inorganic and organic compounds in either solid or liquid form by examining the infrared spectrum of the compound. This is the first piece of instrumentation that the TAL has acquired that allows students to structurally analyze organic (carbon-based) compounds. Its presence in the TAL facility opens up new possibilities for student laboratory exercises and research. Funding for the actual sample holding apparatus has been secured as part of a funded ARC request.
