Strong Women – Healthy Hearts @ CMC Rifle Downtown Academic Center

Class Description:

Strong Women-Healthy Hearts is a cardiovascular disease prevention curriculum that aims to help mid-life and older women reduce the risk of heart disease through fitness and nutritional education. Each class is an hour and 15 minutes long. Half of the class includes leader directed discussion around eating for heart health and hands-on cooking activities. The other half will include physical activity such as walking outside or exercising to a DVD. In this second 4 week session our walking time will gradually increase. Discussion topics will include whole grains, low and non-fat dairy, and proteins; shopping for breakfast, lunch, and snack meals. We will be preparing and sampling simple food ideas. This class is held at the CMC Downtown Rifle Academic Center located at 229 West Ave. Must be 35 or older to attend.

Whitewater Rafting @ Off Campus Field Location

Class Description:

This field experience course provides whitewater boat handling and reading skills through experience on selected rivers in Colorado and Utah. Students will learn river trip planning, safety procedures, equipment, logistics, camp management, hazard evaluation, and minimum environmental impact. Safe and efficient river travel, leadership, and judgment development are emphasized. You must be at least 17 years old on the first day of class to take this course.

This course will focus on beginning and intermediate rafting skills and is designed for adult learners. All field days will take place on local rivers. The non-refundable course charge includes transportation, van shuttles, and expendable supplies. All rafting equipment is provided, including life-jackets. The first meeting will take place in a classroom at the Glenwood Center on July 5th at 6pm, and will cover course logistics, equipment and introduce rafting skills.
