Japanuary: The Japanese Experience 2026

Earn 6 credits studying international business and film/promotion

KIRORO JAPAN

Japan is the hub of action-sport winter media. With the effect of global warming, the ability to capture high quality action in perfect conditions has become a difficult reality for the snowsport industry for their promotional media needs.

This has been compounded by the shortening of the winter season and lack of “go-to” destinations. In turn, this makes Japan the natural choice to study action-sport media and distribution. Students can be assured that during their 10 days in Japan, they will be able to organize and execute their plan.

Enhanced Student Learning Outcomes

Japan is a necessary experience for students wishing to pursue a career in action-sports, as it allows you to create an instant resume booster to jump-start your career paths. Given the reliability of the region for quality conditions and the ease of access to stage CMC courses within the Kiroro conference area, we will have a high quality, mobile classroom with a unique opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity. Students will be able to parlay this experience into real-world job opportunities with finished projects created in Japan they can showcase on their resume.

The CMC/SASS Japan experience is a full service guided experience that brings you to the North Island of Japan (Hokkaido) to take advantage of the legendary snowfall during the best time to be there. We will base ourselves at the Kiroro Resort, keeping a flexible itinerary to allow for exploration of nearby locations depending on conditions. “Conditions” in Japan simply refer to where the most snow is on any given day.

We focus on guided off-piste zones, the backcountry accessible from our back door and have many touring options for getting away from the lifts and into the freshest untouched pow. With small guided groups, the options are endless on any given day and we will make sure we are hitting the best options available. We know that you have been dreaming of getting to Japan and are excited to provide you with an experience that exceeds your expectations.
