  • The Color of Time: Photography by Summers Moore @ CMC Aspen Art Gallery

Colorado Mountain College Aspen Art Gallery 0255 Sage Way, Aspen, CO, United States

Please phone 970-925-7740 to arrange a visit to the gallery, weekdays between 10am-7pm (Monday-Thursday) and 9-4 (Friday). Summers Moore is an artist and photographer based in Carbondale, Colorado. Her work is shaped by long-term engagement with landscape, lived experience, and the quiet disciplines of observation and making. Raised outside Chicago in Lake Forest, Illinois, Moore began photographing at a young age. She later moved west to study at the University of Denver, where the mountain environment became a lasting point of reference. After settling in Aspen, she built a life and studio practice in the surrounding ranges, where she raised her two daughters and continues to work from her home-based studio. Following the early loss of her husband, Moore’s artistic practice deepened and became central to her life. Art emerged not only as a form of expression but as a sustained commitment to study and craft. She has trained with Emily Soto, Frank Ockenfels, and Keith Carter. In addition to her studio work, Moore is actively engaged in the arts community. She has guest-curated photography exhibitions in Aspen, mentored emerging artists through innovative educational initiatives, and served in leadership roles on regional arts councils. Moore’s practice continues to evolve through ongoing education, travel, and sustained time in the mountain landscape. She divides her time between photographic projects and painting, maintaining a studio rhythm grounded in place, physical movement, and close attention to the natural world. She is currently preparing her first self-published magazine documenting her artistic journey and is converting her barn into a dedicated gallery and studio space, scheduled for completion in 2026. CMC Aspen 0255 Sage Way, Aspen, CO

Blending passion, humor, historical insight, and lyrical artistry, Jovan Mays creates an experience that is both deeply personal and profoundly American—one that celebrates the freedom of expression that is one of America’s most valued traditions and continues to define our nation. Jovan Mays, Poet Laureate and National Poetry Slam Champion explores the promises, contradictions, triumphs, and unfinished journeys woven into the American story. An afternoon of poetry that bridges past and present, challenges assumptions, and reminds us that the American story is still being written. This event is offered tuition free through the support of a federal grant awarded to Colorado Mountain College’s Center for Civics Education & Engagement. • Go as a River (CMC Common Reader) Book Talk

CMC Aspen 0255 Sage Way, Aspen, CO

Read 'Go as a River' CMC’s 2026 Common Reader "Go as a River" engages students, staff, and community members with a series of talks this fall with author Shelley Read.   CMC’s Common Reader program selects one book every year and offers it for free distribution across the dozens of communities CMC serves – followed by a series of discussions, author talks and conversations at CMC campuses. This year’s common reader, internationally award winning “Go As A River,” invites us into the life of Victoria "Torie" Nash, a young woman growing up on a peach farm in rural Colorado during the mid-20th century. Set against the backdrop of the creation of the Blue Mesa Reservoir and the flooding of the town of Iola, this work of historical fiction explores themes of love, loss, resilience, and finding home in the face of much tumultuous change. Books will be available to staff and faculty May 7 and 8, 2026 at CMC Days, and available to students and community members at CMC front desks and libraries June 1, 2026. Help us celebrate Colorado’s 150 years of statehood and sesquicentennial birthday with fifth generation Colorado author Shelley Read. The author, Shelley Read, will tour our district and talk at eight sites from October 19-27. Please Register HERE.
