Children's Mini College

We are a School of Learning where children, parents and teachers collaborate to create a warm, safe, nurturing environment that encourages and values observation, risk taking, listening and wondering.

The Children’s Mini College preschool has educated more than 1,300 three- to five-year-old children since the facility opened in 1978. We use the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood learning “where all children are honored and respected for their potential, their capabilities and their humanity.”

Children’s Mini College is a full day preschool and a nonprofit under the Colorado Mountain College Foundation.  Being an auxiliary of CMC, we are able to utilize all the amenities that CMC has to offer, and in exchange, we pay the college for our space and services. We cover our expenses through tuition, fundraising and grant writing.

Center Philosophy

Children's Mini College respects and values children as unique individuals with their own special needs and feelings and we believe children thrive in an atmosphere of trust and safety. We strive to meet the child’s social-emotional, intellectual and physical needs through a rich environment and skilled, nurturing teachers.

Our goal is to provide children with an educational program that promotes the attitudes and skills for a positive attitude toward lifelong learning and to support the child's primary teacher, their parents. Play is an important factor in accomplishing our goal.

Play encourages creativity, social skills and problem solving in the young child. Mini College provides opportunities for individual and group activities in the areas of art, music, cooking, and science, make-believe, pre-reading and pre-math. The staff consists of skilled teachers that believe children learn naturally, when they are challenged by their own curiosities.

The teachers are trained observers and design their curriculum around the child's interests. We value the importance of teacher participation in professional training workshops throughout the year to better their skills with children and parents. Parents have opportunities to work with teachers and other parents at school meetings.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom, on other school related committees, and receive up to date early childhood information through the monthly newsletters and parent teacher conferences.
