Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House: COVID-19 Response

The Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House has always been dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the Colorado Mountain College community, and with a carefully planned and phased approach, the facility will begin to reopen. The Field House Reopening Plan of Action has been created in alignment with CMC’s COVID-19 Operating Plan and utilizing the recommendations and guidelines provided by the Department of Public Health and Environment, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association for clear and consistent messaging.

Extensive precautions are being enacted to provide a safe environment so our members have an opportunity to resume an active lifestyle. While extensive cleaning protocols, enhanced procedures, and social distancing practices will be introduced into the facility, patrons will also be asked to follow the ‘Five Commitments to Containment’ to contribute to the overall success of this reopening plan.

As we navigate through the reopening of the Field House, there will be some new things to expect during each phase. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together. If you have a specific concern please reach out to the Director of Recreation & Events, Melanie Alexander, at (970) 947-8195 or malexander4@coloradomtn.edu. Please visit our website for updates and schedule changes.

SPRING 2021 OPERATIONS

Monday, January 18 marks the beginning of the Spring semester, and with that the Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House’s operation plan will be amended slightly. To start the semester, as a direct reflection of Garfield County being assessed as an “Orange-Level Risk” in regard to COVID, we will continue with limited operations.

The hours of operation will expand from our current holiday hours to Monday – Friday from 6am – 9am and 5pm – 9pm. Please note that there are no weekend hours and that we have removed the mid-day timeslot.

Capacity is set at 25% and each room has a posted limit that we ask that all patrons abide by when utilizing the facility. No organized recreational youth or adult league sports are allowed at this time. Mask wearing and proper social distancing is mandatory at all times within the facility. The Field House is still not accepting any new community memberships at this time as we are looking to prioritize students, faculty/staff, and current members during these times of limited capacity.

All individuals will be required to fill out the college’s Symptom Screening prior to using the Field House. prior to your arrival, please complete the online CMC Symptom Screening Form.

Climbing wall operations are being expanded. The wall will be available for open climb to all those that hold current Field House certifications. Certification cards must be displayed at all times. Belay pairs that consist of individuals from multiple households are allowed and the auto-belays have been reinstalled after their annual recertification and service. In addition, the bouldering wall has received a full reset for those looking for some new problems. The Climbing Wall Coordinator will be available from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Monday - Friday for belay certifications and to belay any individuals that do not have a belay partner.

It is our expectation that when the county’s level of risk is reduced to ‘Yellow’ we will continue to expand our operations accordingly. As always, we appreciated your patronage and patience during these times!
