Center for Civics Education & Engagement

Empowering ethical leadership. Inspiring connection. Strengthening democracy.

The Center for Civics Education & Engagement at Colorado Mountain College is a dynamic opportunity where students, faculty, and community members come together to explore ideas, foster dialogue, and strengthen democratic participation.

In an era of growing civic disconnection, the center serves as a catalyst for renewal—empowering individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead and engage in meaningful ways. Through academic programs, community partnerships, and hands-on experiences, we connect learning with action, helping our mountain towns thrive.

Whether you're pursuing a degree, teaching a course, or simply passionate about making a difference, the center invites you to be part of a movement that values inclusion, ethical leadership, and shared responsibility.

A bold model for civic leadership

At the Center for Civics Education & Engagement, academic learning and community engagement go hand in hand. This integrated model offers a practical, inclusive path to civic education—making CMC a leader in building civic knowledge and connection across the region.

Civic engagement for all

We bring together students, faculty, staff, and community members to build civic voice, career readiness, and a sense of belonging. By offering the Common Ground Speaker Series, special programs, and community education courses, the center serves as a welcoming space for learning, connection, and shared growth—for students and community members across Colorado’s mountain towns.

Skills for life, career & community

Students build essential skills—like self-agency, ethical leadership, and respectful communication—that prepare them to lead in any career or community setting. Whether studying health care, ski area operations, or sustainability, they gain a civic foundation to become informed, trusted contributors to Colorado’s future.

Place-based civic engagement

CMC connects classroom learning with real-world action through courses, internships, events, and local partnerships. Grounded in the values of Colorado’s mountain towns, this approach empowers students and community members to work together on local and national challenges—building stronger, more connected communities.
