1,000 Words: CMC on CBS News Colorado

Jan. 9, 2024 - CBS News Colorado reporter Spencer Wilson visited Colorado Mountain College's Leadville campus on Jan. 9 for a story on the new Avalanche Accident Explorer, an interactive map developed by Dr. Dara Seidl, a CMC GIS professor, in a collaboration with Dr. Ethan Greene, director of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Seidl worked with two Leadville GIS student interns in creating the map, which identifies the areas where fatalities from avalanches have occurred in Colorado. The map can be found on the CAIC website under "Accidents" and can serve backcountry travelers with detailed information. The ultimate goal? To be as safe and as informed as possible in avalanche country.
