CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from specialized certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees, a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.
Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 27%, making CMC eligible for federal Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status. CMC courses are highly personal and many are highly experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.
Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs — and students in Breckenridge have access to college-owned off-campus housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.
The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s Central Services administrative office, which provides administrative support to all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Instruction and lead faculty, the Teaching Assistant I will work in concert with faculty to provide quality learning experiences for students and help with the operations of the program courses. The Teaching Assistant is responsible for organizing classroom materials for instruction, inventory program materials and monitor supplies, prepare course materials for instructors and receive materials for cleaning and organization post course. The Teaching Assistant will also complete a checklist of course prep materials for each instructor as needed, complete hourly time sheet as required, and inform program personnel of equipment, resource, or materials deficiencies.
The ESL (English as a Second Language) and HSE (High School Equivalency) Assistant will serve in a leadership role for ESL and HSE instructional programs. This position is responsible for departmental coordination to ensure successful and accurate enrollment and registration for ESL and HSE students, which requires integration and coordination with academic and student services, testing, scholarships, and grants management. The position requires a high level of independent action and technical knowledge focused on enrollment, registration, administrative and support service duties. Determines procedural methods of work, coordinates and supervises work of others such as support staff and classroom aides.
This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC’s workweek. CMC’s workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Hiring pay rate is $ 25.85 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position, for example, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and two years related experience or an applicable combination of formal education and experience that provides the training and experience necessary to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Teaching Assistants are expected to have a basic understanding of the language acquisition skills taught by the instructors, as well as strategies to work with students. The position should enjoy working directly with students, embrace a lively work environment, and be consistently punctual and reliable. Works cooperatively with internal and external parties; develop and organize events; strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; analytical and interpersonal skills; ability to multitask.
Knowledge of current practices and trends in classroom instruction, and/or ESL/HSE instruction experience. Variety of standard administrative and business methods and procedures; standard Microsoft Office software.
Ability to: read, write, speak, and understand English well; operate variety of office equipment; proficient in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and electronic mail; multi-.
