CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from specialized certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees, a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.
Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 28%, making CMC a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). CMC courses are highly personal and many are highly experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.
Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs — and students in Breckenridge have access to college-owned off-campus housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.
The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s Central Services administrative office, which provides administrative support to all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

Full time faculty positions begin in August 2023 with a 30-credit hour (170 day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually. This position may include up to 9 credits administrative release for college-wide oversight duties for the Medical Assisting, Billing and Coding, and Phlebotomy Programs, which includes administrative and compliance duties with state and national accreditation bodies.
CMC is seeking an experienced Medical professional and dynamic educator to be the lead instructor in the Medical Assisting Program. Teaching duties may extend to other Health Professional subjects, e.g. Phlebotomy. Responsibilities include teaching, student field placement process, program curriculum consistency, and coordination with campus staff for maintenance and acquisition of supplies and equipment. and
Additional responsibilities include attending and maintaining program advisory committee meetings and maintaining business and industry partnerships. The program chair will ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements including documentation, data collection and reporting.
With reassignment time granted, this faculty position serves as Program Chair and includes curricular oversight in coordination with the Dean of Nursing, Health Science, Public Safety, Wellness, and Outdoor Studies. This position also serves as the faculty leader and reporting liaison for Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) in compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This program chair will fulfill the MAEBR identified roles of Program Director and Practicum Coordinator .
The successful candidate will teach classes within the medical assisting program, which may include course delivery may include a mix of live in-person, labs, virtual video, and online education and technology-based modalities available to students throughout the College.
Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include: teaching course load as assigned, evaluate courses and assess student learning, meet established course, program and learning outcomes, comply with guidelines and policies, maintain office hours per established standards, develop rapport with students, assist with and participate in advising, orientation and registration activities.
CMC Faculty are expected to engage in service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.
Salary range: $71,039.61 - $86,526.18 depending upon education and experience. Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:
A minimum of an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 4,000 hours of verified, paid experience related to the profession of medical assisting in the past five years is required. A minimum of one-year full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
A current Medical Assistant certificate is required. Applicants must be in good standing by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or under International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Special Skills or Attributes: knowledge of Allied Health trends, regulatory compliance, instructional program development and management, business management principles, pertinent laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting areas of responsibility.
