Geology Field Trip to Crystal and RF Valleys

Explore the geology of the middle and upper Roaring Fork Valley from the Cattle Creek area through Aspen to the Grottos. Learn about the Carbondale collapse center and sink holes, Mount Sopris and its rock glacier, a 70 million year old delta, 10 million year old Basalt Mountain, and the glacial features in the Aspen area. This class starts with a lecture on Thursday evening at the Carbondale Campus. Students must provide their own transportation for the field trip on Saturday, and meet at the Carbondale Campus. Bring water, lunch, sunscreen and hat, and comfortable walking shoes.
