Intro to Backcountry Skiing I with David

This in-person course is for those who want learn to be comfortable skiing in the backcountry. We'll go over equipment used in the backcountry; metal edge skis, no wax “fishscale”, climbing skins, Telemark, and Alpine Touring (AT). We will mostly ski on the different trails on Rabbit Ears Pass. We will progress from easier trails and terrain to skiing North Walton Peak and “graduating” to Hogan Park Trail, depending on conditions, skills, and student's desires. We also cover avalanche awareness and safety, introduce avalanche beacon use, navigation with cell phone Apps and more. Students need their own metal edge backcountry skis, boots, and poles. Skis can be rented at Backdoor Sports or Ski Haus. Contact David with any questions. THIS CLASS MEETS 1/23, 1/29, 2/6, 2/12. The first 2 classes will start at the CMC campus. Prerequisite: Previous skiing experience and a fitness level to ski in the backcountry.
