This course emphasizes travel in whitewater river environments as a self-contained group. Areas of study include boat handling skills, safety procedures, ecology, geology, geography, safe and efficient travel Leave No Trace principles, and group dynamics. You must be at least 17 years old on the first day of class to take this course.
This class will explore the Colorado River in the Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction areas. This class has two pre-meetings on 4/2 and 4/9 from 6-8:50 pm and spends two amazing weekends on the river: day trips on 4/6 and 4/7, as well as a three-day overnight field trip 4/12 – 4/14 on the Colorado River through Ruby – Horsethief Canyons. Students will receive partial credit hours toward Colorado River guide certification. Instructors are guide instructors in Colorado and Utah. The non-refundable supplemental course charge of $223.70 includes $82 for supplies (some meals on overnight trip, rafts, life jackets, personal dry bags and related equipment), $20 in access fees, $118.50 for transportation and $3.20 in tax.
