Wilderness First Responder

This course provides the student with those skills and emergency medical care techniques used by guides, trip leaders and others providing primary care in backcountry setting. The student will be able to respond correctly to those medical and trauma situations commonly encountered when entry into the EMS system is delayed or unlikely.
Upon successful completion of this course students will be awarded the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, Anaphylaxis Administration and CPR certifications from Desert Mountain Medicine. Evening classes include Tues-Thursday nights from 4/11-5/2, 6-9:20 pm. Field days are mandatory on Saturday and Sunday, 4/20 & 4/21 from 8 am- 6pm and Saturday 4/27 from 9am-10 pm for the final night scenario. 30 hours of this course must be completed online prior to the first class meeting; online content will be available starting on March 11. Please check Canvas upon registration for information to access Web-Based content. Minimum age 18. The nonrefundable supplemental course charge of $306.56 includes $265 for certification fees, $40 for expendable supplies and $1.56 for tax. This is a hybrid, which combines set days for face-to-face classroom instruction with online learning activities. The instructor will provide details about the class schedule, face-to-face meeting times, and other details to help you succeed. Students must have basic computer skills including the ability to navigate, use email, send attachments, and have DSL or high-speed access to the internet.
