Wildfire Mitigation Conference
May 11, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pmFree
Routt County and northwest Colorado were impacted by several large wildland fires last fire season that threatened homes and property. Wildland fire is part of our environment and we all are exposed to some risk, no matter where we live in the county. Please join us for this one day conference that brings together logal and regional experts to help the community understand wildfire risks and the steps we can all take to mitigate them. The conference will begin with local wildland fire experts speaking on local and regional weather and fire conditions. The afternoon will include breakout sessions that will target more specific interests. There will be exhibitors tabling throughout the conference to provide information and resources about wildfire preparedness and mitigation.
The conference has three goals: to raise awareness and provide information on past and current wildfire mitigation efforts; to build upon and replicate success stories; and to learn about resources available in Routt County to reduce the risk of wildfire through mitigation. The conference aims to promote mitigation at different levels and scales, from the individual homeowner to HOAs, public and private, challenging us to think of our landscape as a whole. As the saying goes: “A dollar invested in mitigation saves many more dollars in firefighting”.
Free lunch will be provided for the first 200 who sign up for the conference, register on Eventbrite. Event takes place in the Allbright Auditorium located on the 3rd floor of the Academic Center.
The conference is being organized through the cooperative efforts of the Colorado State Forest Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Routt County Office of Emergency Management, Routt County Fire Protection Districts, the Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, CSU Extension, Colorado Mountain College, Southern Rockies Fire Science Network, the Steamboat Board of Realtors and others.
