Professional Interests/Associations

I am interested in the intersection between sustainability and biology. Most folks think of microbes and genetics as something they only need to know about if they want to be a doctor, but they play such a huge role in our natural world as well. To me permaculture is the perfect blend, an applied form of ecology.

I am a beekeeper and love learning about bees. I enjoy sharing what I know as co-advisor of CMC's student Beekeeping Club as well as the president of the Routt County Beekeeping Association.

Research Interests

I've researched bird populations, worked on recovery of an endangered bird in Hawaii, and studied how bird disease can affect their mating success. I've researched a deadly amphibian fungus in Australia and butterfly diversity in Venezuela. Currently my research focus is on undergraduate science education, and I enjoy helping students conduct experiments as well as testing things out on my bees. I'm the president of the Routt County Beekeeping Association. I'm currently fascinated by Beaver-based restoration processes.
